Colonial Capital Kiwanis Learns about Freedom of Information Act - 09/10/2017

Dave Ress, a reporter for the Daily Press, recently presented a program to the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Capital about the Freedom of Information of Act.  He spoke about the origins of the act and cited examples of how using the FOIA has helped to hold government officials accountable for their actions in governing.  Pictured from left are Club President Larry Shoberg, Ress, and Club member Mary Lehman. 


Economic Development Director Speaks to Colonial Capital Kiwanis - 08/28/2017

Amy Jordan, the Director of Economic Development for James City County, recently presented a program to the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Capital.  She spoke about the mission of her office and the actions being taken to attract new businesses to the area.  She said that James City County is one of the fastest growing communities in the Hampton Roads area and that new businesses will enhance the quality of life for the citizens who live here.  Pictured are Ms. Jordan and Club President Larry Shoberg.


Colonial Capital Kiwanis Learns about Thomas Nelson Community College - 08/16/2017

Dr. Greg McLeod, Provost of the Historic Triangle Campus of the Thomas Nelson Community College, recently presented a program to the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Capital highlighting the role of the college in the Community.  The local campus has one building and provides education to about 1500 students in a variety of programs including technical training, basic academic studies and preparation for transfer to upper level universities and he pointed out that an Associate degree from Thomas Nelson guarantees acceptance to most of the universities in Virginia.  The costs for attendance are substantially lower than at the major colleges and the student/teacher ratio is also much lower. ...
